The school is composed of three departments: Curriculum and Instruction; Communication Sciences and Disorders; and Exercise Science, Health Studies, Physical Education, and Sport Management. Together, the departments offer an impressive roster of more than 50 graduate and doctoral programs.

Ruth S. Ammon School of Education Offers a Variety of Community Service Programs

A number of programs offer community services that provide training opportunities for students. The Adult Fitness Program provides clinical training for exercise science and pre-physical therapy students. The school's Hy Weinberg Center offers an array of diagnostic and treatment options for children and adults with communication disorders. The Reading Clinic offers diagnosis and intervention for children having difficulty developing literacy skills, and the Alice Brown Early Learning Center offers exceptional experiences observing and studying pre-school children.

Programs Offered by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction

The Ruth S. Ammon School of Education's Department of Curriculum and Instruction has dedicated professors with a shared commitment to innovative scholarship and teaching built upon the six core values of scholarship, reflective practice, social justice, inclusive community, wellness, and creativity and the arts.

With more than 20 graduate and doctoral programs, students can earn a degree leading to teacher certification in early childhood, childhood, and adolescent education; art education; literacy; TESOL and bilingual education; early childhood, childhood, adolescent and bilingual childhood special education (learning disabilities); educational leadership; and educational technology. Several of the programs, such as literacy and childhood special education (learning disabilities), offer Postgraduate certificates. The department's comprehensive programs and exceptional faculty make it one of the finest schools of education in New York.

Pre-service teachers engage in various modalities of learning as they study how to teach and assess students from different backgrounds, including students with special needs. An emphasis on technological integration and interdisciplinary approaches across content areas are explored.

Programs Offered by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology; a Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Disorders; and a Doctor of Audiology. The unique doctoral program in audiology gives students access to the resources of Adelphi, Hofstra, and St. John's Universities via the Long Island Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) Consortium.

Programs Offered by the Department of Exercise Science, Health Studies, Physical Education, and Sport Management

The Department of Exercise Science, Health Studies, Physical Education, and Sport Management offers a Master of Arts in Health Education; Community Health Promotion; and Physical Education (with an option leading to certification and another for those already certified). The department also offers Master of Science options in Exercise Science and Sport Management.
