The CBU School of Nursing provides the latest in instructional technology and teaches nursing as a human science. This holistic approach gives students the experience to be compassionate leaders in advanced nursing practice. California Baptist University is WASC accredited and the School of Nursing has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BSN). National accreditation is provided by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Prepare for the Future of Nursing

Few careers offer as many opportunities to make a life-changing difference in the lives of others as does nursing. But the momentous changes that are converging on the healthcare industry are altering the nursing profession and requiring new skills and training to respond to that calling with excellence.

Pursuing advanced education is the single best thing a nurse can do to prepare for the future. But it can be overwhelming for working nurses with families to think about going back to school. CBU School of Nursing can help with its flexible, hybrid programs. Faculty members are extremely supportive and can ease students' transition between the workplace and the classroom.

More importantly, CBU's Master of Science in Nursing program is designed to prepare nurses to excel now and into the future. The learning experience expands students' practice, theoretical, and research knowledge, which enables them to advance into leadership positions or pursue doctoral studies.

Master of Science in Nursing

The part-time MSN program is designed for working registered nurses who hold Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. Classes are held once per week, and the program can be completed in 2 to 2 and a half years.

Its curriculum consists of 42 to 61 units of coursework, including 29 units of core courses. It also includes 12 units of courses in 1 of the following concentrations: clinical nurse specialist, family nurse practitioner, healthcare systems management, or teaching-learning.

Additionally, the program includes 1 unit for a traditional research paper (thesis) or comprehensive examination.

Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing

The Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (EL MSN) program was created for individuals who hold non-nursing baccalaureate degrees but want to pursue leadership careers in the nursing field. The program, which consists of 107 to 123 units of coursework, can be completed in 3 to 4 years.

CBU's Entry-Level MSN program is comprised of 3 stages:

Pre-Requisites: Students are required to complete prerequisite courses in the following areas: "Intermediate Composition," "General Sociology/Cultural Anthropology," "Abnormal Psychology," "Introductory Statistics," "Interpersonal/Oral Communications," "Lifespan Development/Developmental Psychology," "Information Systems Essential," "Microbiology with Lab," "Organic and Biochemistry with Lab," and "Human Anatomy/Physiology with Lab."

Pre-Licensure: Once a student satisfies his or her prerequisite requirements, she will complete 62 units of Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved pre-licensure nursing courses designed to prepare students to take the National Council Licensure Examination NCLEX-RN.

Post-Licensure: Once licensed and employed as a Registered Nurse, the student will then complete 45-61 units of post-licensure coursework to earn a Master of Science in Nursing in 1 of 4 areas of concentration:

- Healthcare Systems Management

- Clinical Nurse Specialist

- Family Nurse Practitioner

- Teaching-Learning

Post-Master's Credentialing

The Post-Master's Credentialing program is designed for registered nurses in the state of California who hold MSN degrees from regionally accredited institutions. Students complete 20 to 34 units of courses in teaching-learning and/or healthcare systems management, generally in 1 to 2 years.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to apply for certification from the appropriate credentialing bodies.

Unique Experiential Learning Opportunities

Students have many opportunities to gain real-world clinical experience, including completing practica at a variety of hospitals and health care facilities. Experienced nursing faculty members supervise students' clinical educations, which incorporate faith-based and holistic concepts into nursing practice.

Students also engage in experiential learning in the state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Lab and Resource Center. It includes rooms equipped with low and high fidelity simulation devices, human-computer interaction programs, and advanced practice task trainers for customized learning.

Financial Assistance for Graduate Students

California Baptist University believes that a college education should be within the reach of every student. Therefore, it offers graduate students financial assistance that includes scholarships, loans, and monthly payment plans.

Excellent Career Opportunities for MSN Degree Holders

Highly-skilled nurses are essential to health care delivery, and forecasts (per the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice) show that by 2020 the RN workforce will be 20% below anticipated requirements.

An MSN degree from California Baptist University prepares students for these future career opportunities. Furthermore, the School of Nursing at CBU has strong relationships with a variety of health care organizations that actively recruit the school's graduates.

Dedicated, Mission-Driven Faculty Members

Faculty members, like Professor Susan Drummond, are highly-skilled professionals who are dedicated to providing nursing practice, education, and outreach that encompasses CBU's faith-based mission.

Dr. Drummond's scholarly interests include qualitative research using parse methodology, student retention and remediation, gerontology, and curriculum development. She has published a number of articles and made numerous presentations pertaining to her research.

She is also dedicated to community outreach and spiritual endeavors. For example, she is a member of Harvest Christian Fellowship where she participates in Bible study and women's outreach, and she has led CBU International Service Project nursing teams in Rwanda, Africa.
