Overview

Capella University -- A Top Online University

Capella is an accredited university, a vibrant community of learners, and a faculty of committed and engaging instructors. Through its online campus and course rooms, Capella provides exceptional higher education to adult learners throughout the United States and across the globe.

Dr. Harold Abel and Stephen Shank founded Capella University in 1993. Since that time, it has been Capella's mission to extend access to high quality doctoral, master's, bachelor's, and certificate programs for adults who seek to maximize their personal and professional potential. The online, competency-based programs deliver core skills that are immediately applicable and professionally relevant.

Capella University's competency-based curriculum is built with input from employers and alignment to industry association standards. Capella delivers the instructions to help students develop the skills needed to succeed in their fields. This unique approach delivers learning outcomes that lead to superior career outcomes.

Online learning is flexible -- students can work on their courses at times and places that fit their lives -- but they should expect to be engaged, inspired, and challenged. At Capella, students will use the online campus and their courserooms to connect and engage with course materials, their classmates, instructors, and more.

Capella is owned by the publicly traded Capella Education Company, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

in Counselor Education and Supervision Overview

Counseling is one of the country's fastest growing professions, creating an accompanying need for counseling educators and supervisors. This rigorous counselor education and supervision doctoral degree program includes online course work, residencies, and field experiences designed to build students' clinical, teaching, research, and supervisory skills. Capella's degree program is one of few available online, and provides opportunities for students to potentially fulfill their internship experiences working with counseling students enrolled in Capella's CACREP-accredited master's degree programs. People likely to be interested in this specialization include master's level counselors interested in pursuing supervisory, faculty, research, or advanced practitioner positions in academic and clinical settings.

As doctoral learners, students will attend 3 5-day colloquia at specific stages in their programs, in addition to their online courses. These energizing residencies provide students with insights and knowledge that will be valuable during doctoral studies and beyond.

This specialization requires course work and clinical experience, including a 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship.

Applicants to the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision must be graduates of a CACREP-accredited master's program or a master's program with equivalent curriculum (subject to Capella review).

Financial Aid

Capella participates in several federal financial aid programs including the Federal Pell Grant Program and Federal Stafford Loan Program. Capella is also eligible to certify Veterans Educational Benefits and can provide information on other non-federal loan programs.

Capella-funded scholarships are also available in select disciplines, such as the Robert C. Ford Human Services Scholarship and the Helene Krivosha Scholarship for education students. There are also external scholarships offered specifically to Capella students, such as the Go the Distance Scholarship.
