Dr. Harold Abel and Stephen Shank founded Capella University in 1993. Healthcare MS Programs

Capella offers a broad portfolio of master's specializations in health care and public health, including "Gerontology," "Health Care Administration," "Health Information Management," and a Master of Nonprofit Management and Leadership degree. Students will work with a faculty rich in professional expertise as well as academic strength, and collaborate with professional peers across the country and the world, providing practical experience in interprofessional problem-solving and helping students quickly apply course room lessons to real-life work settings.

Healthcare MPH Programs

Students can experience Capella's rich, multidisciplinary approach to public health education. This program is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of public health theories and practices, while enhancing the communication and collaboration skills needed to develop and implement effective public health programs and actions across professions and within communities. Developed around national public health curriculum standards, this online MPH covers such areas as promoting healthy lifestyles and environments; preventing injuries, disease, and epidemics; identifying environmental hazards; responding to disasters; and other knowledge and skills that prepare students to protect and improve the health of communities and other population groups.

Concentrations include "General Public Health," "Health Management and Policy," and "Social and Behavioral Sciences."

Healthcare MHA Programs

Students can advance their health care careers by earning master's degrees, which are the standard credential for most health care leadership positions. Capella's online Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree, designed around the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Competency Model, features collaborative, practice-based learning that incorporates industry best practices and the knowledge and skill sets expected by leading health care organizations. Participate in simulations, group problem-solving, and real-time coaching sessions to strengthen the collaboration and communication skills needed by health care leaders. An assessment at the beginning and end of students' program helps them focus on skills they can strengthen or build upon to improve their success as health administrators.

Healthcare MBA Programs

Capella University's MBA Health Care Management specialization is designed to strengthen the management and business skills students need to function effectively within the health care industry. The curriculum includes a thorough study of health care strategic and financial management, health care policy analysis, and legal and ethical considerations within the industry.

MHA - General Health Administration

Students can enhance their careers and strengthen their ability to successfully administer health care delivery in their organization. The curriculum for Capella's online MHA is designed around the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Competency Model and features collaborative, practice-based learning that incorporates industry best practices and the knowledge and skill sets expected by leading health care organizations. The General Health Administration specialization focuses on concepts, principles, and processes associated with general health administration, with a choice of topics that include human capital management, health care consumerism and marketing, facilities and capital asset management, comparative models of global health systems, health care policy drivers, and policy and legislative development processes. People who choose this specialization are often pursuing supervisor, manager, or director positions in health care settings, such as health clinics, hospitals, and outpatient care centers.

MHA - Health Care Operations

Students can increase their foundational knowledge of health administration while delving more deeply into the area of health care operations. The curriculum for Capella's online MHA is designed around the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Competency Model and features collaborative, practice-based learning that incorporates industry best practices and the knowledge and skill sets expected by leading health care organizations. The Health Care Operations specialization focuses on concepts, principles, and processes associated with effective health care operations, including human capital management, health care consumerism and marketing, and facilities and capital asset management. MHA - Health Policy

Students can strengthen their ability to develop sound health policies and advocate for effective change. The curriculum for Capella's online MHA is designed around the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Competency Model and features collaborative, practice-based learning that incorporates industry best practices and the knowledge and skill sets expected by leading health care organizations. The Health Policy specialization focuses on concepts, principles, and processes associated with effective health policy and advocacy, including global health systems, health care policy drivers, and policy and legislative communication. Convenient electronic textbooks lower costs and provide immediate access to course materials. People who choose this specialization are often pursuing senior-level positions focused on health policy and advocacy within health clinics, hospitals, outpatient care centers, and other health care facilities.

Financial Aid

Capella participates in several federal financial aid programs including the Federal Pell Grant Program and Federal Stafford Loan Program. Capella is also eligible to certify Veterans Educational Benefits and can provide information on other non-federal loan programs.

Capella-funded scholarships are also available in select disciplines, such as the Robert C. Ford Human Services Scholarship and the Helene Krivosha Scholarship for education students. There are also external scholarships offered specifically to Capella students, such as the Go the Distance Scholarship.
