East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania Graduate Programs

Founded in 1893 in northeastern Pennsylvania, East Stroudsburg University (ESU) is one of 14 institutions that make up the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. ESU's 257-acre campus is located in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Today, the university offers 22 graduate degree programs and over 20 post-baccalaureate certificate programs in education. The graduate college enjoys a low student to faculty member ratio with a graduate student body of about 1,200 hailing from 19 different states and 11 foreign countries.

The graduate school created a Master of Science (M.S.) in General Science degree program in addition to the school's graduate programs in education, health, business, and science and technology.

Graduate Programs in Business

East Stroudsburg University offers a 33 to 37 credit hour M.S. in Management and Leadership degree program. Students master management skills and decision making strategies that prepare them for either private or public sector jobs. Students may concentrate either in sports management or public administration.

ESU also partners with Shippensburg University to offer an AACSB international-accredited Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree program. Working professionals can conveniently earn their degrees in 2 years by taking 2 courses 1 night a week.

The M.S. in Sports Management

The M.S. in Sports Management degree program at ESU prepares students for professional careers in public and private schools, colleges and universities, and sports clubs and professional athletic teams. Students complete 27 credits of course work in addition to 7 to 10 credits of an on-site internship that provides them with job experience. Students complete the Sports Management Comprehensive Examination at the end of their studies.

The M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology

The M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology degree program provides both academic and clinical experience required for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology. Students each complete 53 credit hours of course work, an on-campus clinical practicum, and a clinical externship at 2 different off-campus sites where students would like to seek employment.

The Master of Public Health

East Stroudsburg University has developed its Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program to prepare students for the estimated quarter of a million new job openings expected over the next 10 years. Students can complete their M.P.H. degree programs in Community Health Education or in Health Service Administration.

The program endows students with skills that they need in biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, and health policy and administration. In addition, students carry out independent research and complete internships at institutions such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), city and state health departments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and major private health systems.

The M.S. in Health Education

ESU created its M.S. in Health Education degree program to try to meet the fast growing need for health educators in schools, colleges and universities, and the private sector. The 30-credit program covers curriculum that addresses the latest competencies established by the Competencies Update Project of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.

Graduate Programs in Exercise Science

The Department of Exercise Science at East Stroudsburg University has a distinguished history, having been endorsed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. The department offers an M.S. in Clinical Exercise Physiology degree program and an M.S. in Exercise Science degree program.

The 45-credit M.S. in Clinical Exercise Physiology degree program can be completed within 1 year and provides both classroom and laboratory experience. Graduates emerge with strong foundations in the rehabilitation of populations with pulmonary, cardiac, and metabolic disorders through exercise and assessment programs.

The M.S. in Exercise Science degree program is offered with a thesis and non-thesis option, providing students with hands-on experience in exercise physiology and biomechanics at ESU's cutting-edge facilities.

Abundant Graduate Education Programs

East Stroudsburg University offers a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree program in Elementary Education, Professional and Secondary Education, Special Education, Biology, History, Instructional Technology, Political Science, and Reading.

Graduate students can also enter ESU's 3-year Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Administration and Leadership Studies degree program. Students meet 5 times per semester on a Friday and Saturday to accommodate the schedules of busy working professionals. Graduates of the program who have 5 years of educational administrative experience may apply for the Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility.

Science and Technology Master Degrees

ESU also offers M.S. degrees in biology, computer science, and information security. East Stroudsburg University is a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education, one of about 100 institutions certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. National Security Agency. The unique M.S. in Information Security program allows student to earn up to 6 federal certifications.

Master of Arts Degrees

ESU also offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) in History degree program and an M.A. in Political Science degree program, both of which can be completed in the course of a calendar year.

An Accomplished Faculty

ESU faculty members are both active researchers and experienced practitioners. Professor Susan Dillmuth-Miller works as the clinical audiologist for the Speech and Hearing Center at ESU. She also conducts research in genetic hearing loss and educational audiology.

Professor Halkin Kimm began his career as a programmer and then systems analyst before moving into research and academia at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee.

Tuition and Financial Aid at East Stroudsburg University

As a public university, ESU offers low tuition that is subsidized by the state of Pennsylvania. Over 75% of the students at East Stroudsburg University receive financial aid, whether in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, or work-study employment.
