Overview

Changing Outlooks: Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology

The Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology exemplifies the scholar-practitioner model that prepares clinical psychologists to apply psychological science to promote mental health and serve the welfare of individuals, families, groups, institutions, and society at large. This model of training is recognized by the American Psychological Association as appropriate for the preparation of clinical psychology practitioners. Skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment are developed for application in a wide range of clinical settings. Students complete 3 years of full-time course work and a 1-year, full-time internship or a 2-year, half-time internship. Following completion of postdoctoral clinical training, graduates are eligible to take their licensure examinations.

Benefits of the Program

Located at the Pepperdine University West Los Angeles Graduate Campus, the program is led by distinguished faculty members with strong clinical backgrounds, and provides essential clinical experience within the first year of study, as well as extensive clinical training with community partners, including the Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission and on-campus clinics. Dissertations are a key element of the program, and contribute to the professional community. Students emerge prepared to become licensed clinical psychologists. Financial aid, career services, and housing assistance are available.
