Overview

An abundance of data in organizations is creating a high demand for professionals with the skills to harness data to gain insights and drive competitive actions in businesses. The M.S. in Business Analytics (BSAN) program provides students with the knowledge and essential skills needed to respond to the new challenges characteristic of the data intensive decision-making environments in the world today.

The program is 1 year long and 30 credits.

Career Options

A recent "McKinsey" report highlights that in the United States alone, the demand for people with the deep analytical skills in big data could outstrip current projections of supply by 50% to 60%. By 2018, as many as 140,000 to 190,000 additional specialists may be required.

Business Analytics Curriculum

The curriculum adopts an interdisciplinary focus and integrates concepts from industrial marketing, operations management, and information systems. The curriculum includes 3 parts: a business core, a supply chain core, and specialized electives that include real-world project-based courses that allow students to develop expertise in specific areas of supply chain management.

Business Core Courses -- 12 credits

Courses in the business core include: "Statistics and Operations Management;" "Introduction to Accounting and Financial Management;" "Information Systems for Management;" "Marketing Research."

Analytics Core Courses -- 12 credits

Students choose 4 courses from the following:

- "Knowledge Discovery with Data Mining"

- "Optimization, Algorithms, and Applications"

- "Internet Marketing"

- "Technology Fundamentals for Business Analytics"

- "Introduction to Neural Networks"

Domain Focused Courses -- 6 credits

Choose 2 courses from the following:

- "Financial Econometrics Modeling"

- "Internet Marketing"

- "Marketing Analytics"

- "Risk Management"
