The time has come to start preparing for the TACHS exam. Registration is now open as of today, August 26th! TACHS is very specific about not missing a deadline, so be sure to register early to ensure that you don’t miss the deadline on October 30, 2024, at 10:59 PM EST. You may need to discuss with other family members and your student’s school to ensure your student is not enrolled more than once.
Registration
Registration is now open to eligible candidates. Eligibility requires the student to be enrolled in the eighth grade during the 2024-2025 school year. Students and parents should also have the desire to apply for Fall 2025 admission to Catholic high schools within the Archdiocese of New York, the Diocese of Brooklyn/Queens, or the Diocese of Rockville Centre (Long Island). Register either online (the preferred method) or via the phone. Fees
The fee to register is $71. The price includes administration of the exam, the reporting of scores to your three high school choices, and online access to the student’s Home report.
System Setup For Test Day
The TACHS test is administered online, remote, and at home. Therefore, it is crucial to set up your student’s testing equipment beforehand and ensure they know how to operate the system. Test Format and Focus
The TACHS is a multiple-choice test that’s designed to test students’ knowledge in the following key subtest areas—reading, written expression, mathematics, and general reasoning ability.
Expect the difficulty level of the questions to be on par with what a typical eighth-grade student should have mastered.
The questions on the TACHS will have either four or five answer choices, with alternating letter options (A, B, C, D, or J, K, L, M, etc.). Your student’s job will be to indicate the choice that most effectively answers each question.
Test Day and Beyond
You’ve done everything you can to prepare your student for the test, now it’s time to see their skills and abilities. Afterward, scores will be distributed to the top three Catholic high schools in mid-December, and score reports will be available to test takers in mid-January.
