Your students’ TACHS exam scores may be most impacted by preparation for TACHS test day. Ensuring your students’ success for the TACHS exam can be done in a few steps.
- Set up testing equipment—Ensure that your student has a testing device. Phones, mini tablets, and Android tablets (Samsung, Asus, Amazon Fire) are not to be used for testing. Laptops, Desktop computers, or Chromebooks with Mac OS X, Windows, or Chrome operating systems are ideal for taking the TACHS exam. Provide chargers, internet, and optional headphones for test day. Students are also allowed scratch paper for reading, written expression, and mathematics. Microphone and camera access is necessary for visual monitoring of the test. Ensure that these are successfully operating along with the Protorio program on the chosen test device.
- Equip the student—Rest, food, hydration, and encouragement help secure the best test score possible. Encourage your student to do their best in the test, read questions thoroughly, and review questions and answers if time allows. Prior to test day, practice completing questions within an allotted time so you can gauge your student’s test-taking abilities and ensure that they’re ready to answer questions in a timely manner.
- Minimize distractions—Secure a distraction-free zone away from pets and siblings. Provide a space with adequate light, lack of disturbances, snacks, and water to get through the test.
- Invest in TACHS Prep—In addition to system requirements, to give your students exposure to a TACHS-like test, we recommend utilizing TACHS test prep materials like TACHS study guides and full-length TACHS practice tests. By taking practice tests, your student will walk into test day with an understanding of the testing environment and the types of questions that will be asked on the exam. Peterson’s TACHS test prep includes two fully aligned online, full-length practice tests plus one diagnostic with detailed answer explanations to every question; flashcards; and TACHS prep classes that will give your student a comprehensive overview of potential test questions so they can go into the TACHS exam with confidence and earn their highest score possible.
