PERT FAQs

  • The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) is Florida’s college readiness test. The PERT test measures college-level course placement based on students’ skills and abilities.
  • There are three sections of the PERT test:
    1. Reading: summarizing essential ideas, events, and information; determining the meaning of words and phrases in context; analyzing the meaning, word choices, tone, and organizational structure of the text; recognizing relationships within sentences; evaluating reasoning and rhetoric of an argument or explanation, and more
    2. Writing: establishing a topic or thesis; grammar, usage, and mechanics; maintaining a style and tone, and more
    3. Math: equations, algebraic expressions, polynomials, dividing by monomials and binomials, linear equations, and more.
  • The PERT exam is computer-adaptive, which means the difficulty of questions depends on how a test-taker answers previous questions. You cannot leave a question blank or go back and change your answer after you’ve moved on to the next question.
  • There are 90 or 30 questions for each section of the PERT test. Only 25 questions in each section were scored on the test.
  • The test is not timed. However, most students complete all three sections within 135 minutes.
  • A great way to study for the PERT test is by using a study guide. Peterson’s test prep gives you the resources you need, including a PERT test study guide with tips for preparing for the PERT test.
  • PERT practice tests are a great way to learn the material and structure of the PERT test. Peterson’s test prep offers two full-length online PERT practice tests to help you achieve your highest score possible.
  • You can take two PERT math practice tests with Peterson’s test prep. Most of the math covered on the PERT test is algebra and geometry, focusing on evaluating expressions, solving equations and inequalities, coordinate planes, systems of equations, polynomials, factoring, and quadratics.
  • You do not pass or fail the PERT test. The scaled scores on the PERT test range from 50-150. The current standard score ranges for the PERT test are:
    1. Reading: 106
    2. Writing: 103
    3. Math: 114
