- The AP Physics 2 exam tests your knowledge of scientific concepts including: fluids, thermodynamics, electric force, field, and potential, electric circuits, magnetism and electromagnetic induction, geometric and physical optics, and quantum, atomic and nuclear physics. You’ll be expected to know how to use algebra in order to solve issues related to these topics.
- The AP Physics 2 exam consists of 2 sections, a multiple choice section and a free response section. The multiple choice section of the AP Physics 2 exam has 50 questions testing your ability to translate and describe representation and models, use math to solve scientific problems, create an experiment to answer a scientific question or test a hypothesis, analyze data and assess evidence, work with scientific explanations and theories, and make connections. You will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete. The free response section consists of 4 questions. The first type of question is on experimental design where you’ll be asked to design and describe an investigation, analyze lab data, and observe and identify patterns or explain a phenomena. The second type of question will test your comprehension of qualitative and quantitative translation by requiring you to express a reasoning quantitatively or qualitatively. The other types of questions, you will be asked 2 questions requiring you to provide an argument.
- The AP Physics 2 exam is considered to be difficult; however, if you are interested in the topics covered, are engaged in class, study hard, and are properly prepared, the exam will be much easier for you.
- The AP Physics 2 exam is scored on a 1 to 5 scale with a score of 3 generally considered as a passing grade. The multiple choice question makes up 50% of your overall score, with the other 50% falling into the free response section.
