- The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Radiologic Technologist – ARRT Exam measures the knowledge and cognitive skills required by entry-level Radiologic technologists required to perform their jobs.
- The ARRT exam covers four main topics:
- Patient Care: patient interaction and management (33 questions)
- Safety: radiation physics and radiobiology, radiation protection (53 questions)
- Image Production: image acquisition and technical evaluation, equipment operations, and quality assurance (50 questions)
- The ARRT Exam consists of 220 questions that must be completed in 3 ½ hours.
- ARRT has partnered with Pearson VUE to offer testing centers at 200+ locations in and outside the U.S. Find more information about ARRT exams and assessments.
- The ARRT Exam scoring scale ranges from 1 to 99, with 75 as the passing score. Since the Radiography Technician exam uses scaled scoring, the number of correct answers necessary to obtain a score of 75 will vary. You will receive your exam results in an official score report within four weeks of taking the exam.
- You will need to apply for ARRT certification and registration, which varies based on the path you take to pursue your credential. To begin, you must submit an application approved before scheduling your exam. You will also need to pay for the exam and have received your Candidate Status Report (CSR), which notifies you of your eligibility to take the exam.
- You are allowed to take the ARRT Exam three times within three years. If you fail the third attempt, you will no longer be eligible and must regain eligibility to apply for certification and registration.
